Moonlight Requiem plotline

This is the plotline for Moonlight Requiem, and all things pertaining to that plotline.

Long ago, before man learned to build or to adapt; before life had left its first vestiges of a pod and begun to grow; there were five titanic beings that held sway and authority. Tasked as the guardians, they took little part in shaping the world, choosing instead to watch it grow and develop. Aeons passed, and life came. And only after it had flourished, and could survive on its own, did they deem it time to let it develop on its own. These five were called the five Salianths, and represented five of the major virtues of life. However, at the time of their sealing, one of them became disconcerted at their decision to withdraw. It was later revealed that this one had slowly become corrupted by the growing evilness in humanity, until he had become an opposite being - representing one of the many vices in humanity and life. He, wielding an unknown power over the other four, corrupted them with this same energy, leaving them conflicted husks; husks that eventually split off into two halves each: one half representing their former virtue, and one half representing their corrupted vice. They were all 9 then sealed inside a monolithic formation, a diagram of stone with 9 spheres, each interconnected. On one half of this diagram rests the 'light' side - and on the other half rests the 'dark' side. The 9th, whole and unsplit, remained the middle link - and the strongest of them all. He, unlike the rest, is still whole - and so subject to the energy of purity and evil.

After thousands of years, the seal holding them miles beneath the frozen arctic began to unweave, and their nuclei - an object representing their regressed, sleeping state - were released and scattered across the world, waiting to be found...

Those few who know the secret of this tale - for most of its recording has long since been destroyed while humanity built up and forward - keep it to themselves, while silently searching for the nuclei. It has been wondered if these deities are the original inspirations for the idea of 'God' and 'angels,' and many go so far as to say that all modern religion converges backwards to one primary belief, which worshipped them. It has never been proven.

There have been a great deal of people looking to find the nuclei. Most of them never found anything, wasting away their lives in vain search. Of the few left, most of them heard rumors, but could find nothing solid. Only a slight percentage of all the explorers - less than one percent - have ever found a nuclei, and for some reason none of them were ever heard from again.

The nuclei themselves seem selective of their owners, though text relating to them is almost nonexistant, and the most recent of it dates back past the death of Christ. By all recorded accounts, however, one truth is held constant; if the nuclei finds a host, it enters like a parasite, always trying to control the body while giving the host its powers.

Europe, circa 1852. The world as we knew it, almost to the letter but for the existance of monsters. Nightmares, Unreals, Restless, Soulfeeders... whatever the name, there's no excuse. Humanity has long since acknowledged that it shares its countries with Incubi, Succubi, Werewolves, Fiends, Vampires and others. And in Europe, the concentration per country is high.

It is here, in the Vatican city, that the Academy was founded. Dedicated to training men and women who could destroy the threat posed to humans by these Nightmares, the Academy began recruitment for the 'Hunter' program in 1801. It took everyone who had drive, desire, talent, will, or dedication, and nourished them into machines of destruction.

The resulting 'purge' rapidly weakened the monster population. The hunter scoured country by country, dealing with the pureblood families and the wild beasts with alike efficiency. Eventually, by 1810, the population of abnormal creatures was half of what it had been. Only then did the hunters relent; for without the monsters to hunt, the hunters had no subsequent purpose to their lives.

After that began the 'truce;' the Hunters ceased active extermination of any random monsters, and only opposed that to became a known threat to the population. Attacks or manipulations of humans were forbidden, and the Hunters enforced the rule.

Now, in 1852, we turn to two new Hunters: Isaac, 17, and Sebastian, 18. They are set to leave for Transylvania, a country known as the most prominent residence of the vampire pureblood families. Leaving by carriage, they would arrive in a month.

Along the way, they have encountered and stopped a Hellhound attack, which was no doubt sent by someone to stop them from reaching Transylvania. As well, they met up with the pureblood vampire Alice, who left her family in Romania due to thinking of humans as people and not food. She eventually joined the team.

Finally, our story presents them in the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava. Sebastian has been missing, having jumped out of the carriage two days ago to confront another Hellhound attack, and so Alice and Isaac continue on alone towards their destination. What awaits them in Bratislava...?
